Information Poverty
2017
Arts letters & Numbers in Collaboration with UNICEF
The first collaborative immersive workshop between UNICEF’s Office of Innovation and Arts Letters & Numbers was held at the Arts Letters & Numbers Mill from Dec 7th- 10th, 2017. The workshop brought together over thirty people to explore the challenges and opportunities within the broad topic of ‘Information Poverty.’ This initial workshop gathered people from a wide spectrum of disciplines including: artists, architects, policy-makers, musicians, scientists, writers, craftspeople, composers, economists, mimes, engineers, actors, dancers, mathematicians, chefs, scholars, historians, theatre directors, and more. Together, we expanded our understanding of what ‘Information Poverty’ means, and considered how to develop approaches to make tools of communication and information more broadly accessible, in the interest of improving the lives of children worldwide. It was a remarkable experience of shared stories, ideas, visions, and works. It is a distinct honor and pleasure to be collaborating with UNICEF on projects that resonate so deeply with the mission of Arts Letters & Numbers. The workshop was codirected by Chris Fabian and David Gersten, and cotaught with Arts Letters & Numbers Fellows and Visiting Artists.
