Sina Goudarzi
Sina Goudarzi has been active in the practice, study, and promotion of the art of Persian calligraphy for over forty years. A graduate of Tehran’s Iranian School of Calligraphy, he went on to serve as an official instructor there. Later, Sina moved to the U.S. and completed his undergraduate studies in graphic design from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and his graduate studies in Arts Politics from the Tisch School for the Arts at NYU. His long-term study has focused on nasta’liq style in Iran, with interest in the art of Gholam Reza Isfahani. His research explores the socio-political aspect of calligraphy as a manifestation of cultural identity, and as a medium of resistance in Iran. His work considers the marked page as a medium of expressive self-discovery, and as a quasi-architectural space of haptic engagement.
He has held workshops at ALN – including Formation of a ‘Nun,’ and Embodiment of a ‘Nun’ – and also at a number of international museums and galleries.
